60 Years Of God's Grace: A Brief History Of First Baptist Church

In 1963, Pastor George Cable, along with six couples, voted to organize "The First Baptist Church of Hartford."  A chapel-style building was constructed on the corner of Washington and Rural Streets, and we began regular Sunday services on August 23, 1964.

Pastor Cable served as interim pastor until Pastor Robert Johnson accepted the call as the first pastor and began ministry in January, 1965. In April 1973, the church voted to purchase the First United Methodist Church, parsonage and parking lot on the corner of Church and South Streets.

The following year, Pastor Johnson resigned and Pastor Michael Gordon, along with his wife Carole, accepted the call to serve in May of 1974.  Many of the young people he served have gone on to serve the Lord in areas of foreign and stateside ministries.

Our current Pastor, Cameron Rankin, accepted the church's call in May 2023. Pastor Cameron began serving as the youth pastor in 2020, and he and his wife Courtney have been members at FBC for several years.

As we celebrate 60 years of God's grace, we look forward to continuing in the godly heritage of First Baptist Church under our new pastor's leadership.
